Ilana Elovic

Ilana Elovic's parents were holocaust survivors who immigrated to Israel in 1948.  At the young age of nine, Ilana lost her mother.  This affected her for the rest of her life.  She served in the Israeli Army Intelligence Service and was involved in cartography.  Ilana married into a family with three children with whom she developed a bond so deep it was as if the children and grandchildren were her own.

Her talent in technical and artistic matters was identified early in her life.  Following her service in the army, she was a draftsman in a prestigious architectural firm.  Even though Ilana never had a formal art education, she excelled in everything she focused on including her love of bridge, where she achieved a Master level in Israel and the United States; and in her artistic endeavors - sculpture, painting, ceramics and jewelry making.  Ilana related to everyone she encountered in a  dignified and elegant manner that radiated warmth and generated respect.

Ilana was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in June 2001.  She lost her battle with cancer in November 2006.  During her cancer journey, she never complained.  She always tried to live as
normal a life as possible.  These years were some of her most productive; sculpting when she could still use a chisel, then ceramics and painting, and ultimately sketching and drawing as her strength slowed.  For her entire life, this beautiful lady was elegant, dignified and inspirational.  She was admired by all who knew her, inspiring the respect  and admiration  of all.

A collection of Ilana's art will be showcased at the Massachusetts State House August 4th - 15th, 2008 .
