Jerry Schwartz, PhD Appointed Program Director of The Wellness Community-Greater Boston at the Susan de Vries Circle of Hope

New North-Shore Center Opens in Salem, Massachusetts

Salem, MA – July 12, 2007 –
The Wellness Community-Greater Boston (TWC), a non-profit organization providing free cancer support and education services for people with cancer and their loved ones, today announced that Jerry Schwartz, PhD has joined the organization’s management team as its Program Director of its Susan de Vries Circle of Hope facility in the North shore.

Dr. Schwartz, a life-long resident of the North Shore and a practicing psychotherapist for the past 20 years, earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley and was the Associate Executive Director of a non-profit community-based organization providing counseling and prevention services to individuals, families and youth.  He was also an adjunct faculty member at the California School of Professional Psychology.  Most recently, Dr. Schwartz served as a hospice psychosocial counselor providing end-of-life support to individuals and their families.  He currently serves on the Professional Consultation Committee for the Chaplain Training Program at Beverly Hospital.

Sue’s Circle of Hope is named after The Wellness Community’s dear friend, and 2005 Gilda Radner Award honoree, Susan de Vries.  Sue courageously fought her breast cancer, undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormonal and pharmaceutical treatments.  Her family and friends embraced her cancer and were always by her side to provide the emotional support she so often needed.  Sue relished every day of her life and was an inspiration to so many people literally fighting for their lives.  It was Sue’s dream to establish a Wellness Community in the North shore.

“We are so pleased that Jerry has joined our team.  His extensive years of experience and his community involvement on the North Shore will be so valuable to Sue’s Circle of Hope”, said Harriet Berman PhD, VP of Clinical Programs.

Every Wednesday in July and August, beginning July 11th, The Wellness Community at Sue’s Circle of Hope will be hosting an open house from 2-5pm.  The public is welcome to attend these open houses at 76 Lafayette Street in downtown Salem, telephone: (978) 745-0541.
