1. How many people use The Wellness Community? Since opening our doors in 1993, we have had over 75,000 visits. This translates into approximately
10,000 individuals. Over the course of one year, we see over 1000 individuals. Many of these people return several times during
the course of a week.
2. Why doesn’t The Wellness Community charge for its programs? At The Wellness Community, we help people reduce the stress that goes along with a cancer diagnosis. Financial concerns
are a common source of stress. By providing our services at no charge, we help reduce stress for individuals with cancer.
3. What are the common sources of stress for people with cancer? In addition
to the financial stresses mentioned above, people diagnosed with cancer often experience: -a sense of isolation -a
feeling of being out of control -a loss of hope
4. How do The Wellness Community’s
programs reduce stress? Through our evidence-based programs that are designed to provide support, education
and hope, The Wellness reduces stress for individuals with cancer and their loved ones. This strengthens the immune system,
and helps people with cancer cope with both their disease and the side effects of treatment.
5. Where
does The Wellness Community’s funding come from? We are entirely supported by the generosity of individuals,
corporations and foundations. Our funds are raised through special events, grants and private donations. We receive no funds

6. Isn’t it depressing for people
to be around other people with cancer? No one understands what it means to live with cancer better than another
person with cancer. This is what makes support groups so powerful. And participants don’t check their sense of humor
at the front door. Groups share the full range of emotions, including tears and laughter.
7. Who
runs The Wellness Community’s programs? All of our facilitators are licensed psychotherapists with
many years of clinical experience, and training in The Wellness Community’s methodology. Our instructors in yoga, tai
chi, qi gong and nutrition are all certified and experienced in the particular needs of people with cancer.
